Mathauserové "aneb historie a dílo opomenutých umělců českých"

Předložená práce seznamuje s uměleckým rodem Mathauserů, jehož kořeny jsou původně spjaty se Staňkovem u Domažlic.

V první generaci staňkovských Mathauserů, jejichž narození lze datovat do poloviny 19. století, se jako nejvýznamnější osobnost jeví Josef Mathauser. Ten se stal nejen populárním historickým a církevní malířem, ale také zakladatelem nové, pražské linie výtvarných umělců Mathauserů. Josefovi bratři též oplývali malířským nadáním, avšak díky neutěšeným životním podmínkám a rozličným životním osudům jim nebylo dopřáno stát se velkými umělci. Tato studie se dále zabývá uměleckým rodem příbramských Mathauserů, jehož zakladatelem byl Josefův bratr, traťmistr a vynálezce Václav Mathauser.

Cíl této vůbec první studie o umělcích z rodu Mathauserů, odkrývající osudy významných, avšak opomenutých umělců českých, nespočívá pouze ve vytvoření souboru jednotlivých biografií, rozboru a zhodnocení jejich díla, snaží se rovněž přiblížit každodenní život umělce, jeho niterné prožívání a pohled na tehdejší společnost, zejména potom vytvořit ucelený obraz o rodině, kterou téměř sto padesát let spojoval statut výtvarných umělců.

 

The Mathausers "and the history and work of the forgotten Czech artists"

This presented work gives information about the artistic family of the Mathausers, whose roots are originally connected with the village Staňkov near the town of Domažlice.

The most significant figure in the first generation of the Mathausers of Staňkov appears to be Joseph Mathauser, whose nativity can be dated to the second half of the 19^th century. Joseph Mathauser is also the one who not only became a popular historical and ecclesiasticial painter but also a founder of the new-born Prague line of the visual artists, the Mathausers. Joseph´s brothers also had an aptitude for the art of painting. However, owing to their unfavourable living conditions and their diverse life destinies they were not fated to become great artists. This work also deals with the artistic family of the Mathausers of Příbram, whose founder was Joseph's brother, a lineman and inventor called Václav Mathauser.

The aim of this complete original work concerning the family of Mathausers is to reveal the history of those outstanding but yet forgotten czech artists, which lies not only in forming an anthology of individual biographies, analysis and an evaluation of their work. It also tries to outline the everyday life of the artist, his inner feelings and view of society at that time and therefore to create a compact image of a family, which was connected with the status of visual artists for almost one hundred and fifty years.
